"Quito Fragmented" is a collaborative work between designers and artisans that reinterprets the role of craftsmanship in Ecuador, exploring its boundaries between art, design, and tradition. This textile installation presents a fragmented and distorted vision of Quito, based on the perception of its conceptual author, architect María Isabel Paz, who reconfigures the scale of its neighborhoods according to her interpretation of the territory.
Each piece was handwoven in the canton of Guano by a group of rug makers who keep this ancestral technique alive, using natural fibers from the region. The neighborhoods, conceived as individual units, interweave into a larger composition, forming a woven map that not only represents the city but also redefines the value of the artisanal craft as a contemporary language of exploration and expression.
